Overview

This lesson is for fourth graders in language arts. It is a mystery in which the students will look up information and look for clues in helping to solve a crime.  The teacher will provide the following resources for the children to complete the task.  They will need access to the internet and any book or article that will help.
They will also need a notebook to write down their information and clues.

Introduction

Mrs. Baker had made a big batch of her famous chocolate chip cookies and donated them to the local school for their "bake sale" to raise money for the school's baseball team. Oh no! Someone has stolen Mrs. Bakers cookies for the "bake sale" at the local school. They were right over there on the table a few minutes ago and now they are gone. Oh no! Who could have done this? Who could have stolen the cookies? We were counting on Mrs. Bakers cookies to bring in lots of money for our school baseball team.

Task

Mrs. Baker needs your help in finding the stolen chocolate chip cookies. First you will need a group of three to help her. The following jobs will be divided and each person is a helpful key to the others in the group. Everyone in the group should work together and help each other because each one is important in helping bring the culprit to justice. These students were in the room when the teacher left the room for a second and when she came back the cookies were gone. It's your job to find the cookies and to find out who took them.

Ramonita: the most popular girl in the school.

Vanessa: the shy girl who never liked to talk in class.

Mary: the girl who always made jokes in school.

Xavier: the boy who always picked on the girls and pulled their hair when teacher wasn't looking.

Janisa: the girl who was Ramonita's best friend and always wore the prettiest hair ribbons.

JJ: The quiet boy who always had his nose in a book.
